Download the program here on aktivematrix, this is the current version available on the Scantech site only repackaged to include the files that people seem to be having trouble with..

Okay, originally I posted that I was writing a program, I got far enough along to make it initialize and read whether the MIL light was on..

Only to discover this....

http://www.techdiag.co.uk/obdscantech/web/Download.htm

http://techdiag.co.uk/obdscantech/ScanTechProject.rar

OBD-II Scan tech (OBD-II generic) supports the JEFF Protocol converter (its a direct serial to ISO converter using opto-isolators and is compatible with the Tactrix Openport Cable using serial port emulation)

Okay guys.. Download this new toy and use your tactrix cable as an OBD-II diagnostic cable for your Evo.. (will work on the Subaru too in ISO mode)

You need to alter the configuration to usee the JEFF interface, and use the serial port created by the new openport drivers (I used Com2 on mine)

This is VERIFIED TO WORK!!!

Its a program called OBD Scan Tech, it supports a device called the "Jeff Protocol Converter" which is basically functionally identical to the Tactrix Openport cable without the reflash capabilities..

1) You need to be running the most current version of ECUFlash and Drivers, this is because the most current version creates a serial (com) port for your cable, this is REQUIRED to get this to work.

2) Go into computer management, look under devices, under ports, see what COMx port your tactrix cable is listed under, this is necessary for configuring the software

3) Install your copy of OBD Scan Tech (OBD II GENERIC version!) and under settings, set the interface to JEFF PROTOCOL CONVERTER and set the com port setting to the value you found earlier in the device manager.

Thats it.. When you connect you can now use your Tactrix cable as a regular OBD-II scan tool..

Okay.. Now your asking, What good is this?

1) Read and reset CEL codes

2) Check diagnostic data

3) Check the freeze frame info

4) check the continuous and noncontinuous monitors (so you can see if you'll pass an inspection)

This basically completes your toolkit of useful tools for the Tactrix cable to make it a fully fleged Scan tool!

I did see it had some requirements listed for MDAC and some other stuff, my laptop had no problem with it, but its typically the older run-time stuff.

Its amazing what you can find with some persistence.. I was really determined to find something that worked with the Tactrix cable and not have to write something from scratch.

Works on my 1 year old Dell Ispiron 6000 laptop running Win XP Pro wti sp2. Installed perfectly.

Did not work on my new HP Pavilion 8000 series laptop running WinXp Media Edition wtih sp2. Came up with MS Access DB errors something about Jet 4.0 . I tried to downlod the upgrade from MS but the tool said the version I have ( MS office 2003 latest release ) was OK. Still didnt work. I'll retry what somebody did by downloading the Nissan one first, install it then reinstall the generic version to see if that works. I'll post if it does.

thanks again Jack !!!!
